A missile, fired by North Korea, had flown 2,700 kilometers (1,700 mi) past Hokkaido in northern Japan. The missile that had flown over, prompted the activation of the J-Alert system. This was the first time, since 1998, that a North Korean missile had flown over Japanese territory.
